Golden Screen Cinemas was founded in 1998 as a merger of Golden Communications (GC) Circuit and Cathay Cinemas. Cathay Cinemas was later revived in Malaysia in 2004 as Cathay Cineplexes, which was formerly known as Mega Pavilion Cinemas.
